Strengthening the Gas Transmission Network in Bavaria

The AUGUSTA pipeline spans a total length of 40.5 kilometres, connecting the Wertingen compressor station in the Dillingen district with the Kötz network node in the Günzburg district in southern Germany. Installed parallel to the existing Senden–Vohburg (SV50) pipeline, the AUGUSTA pipline enhances network stability and creates additional transport capacity. The project therefore contributes to reliably securing current and future energy demand across southern Germany.

Investing in a Secure Energy Supply

With an investment volume of around EUR 180 million, bayernets is delivering a large scale infrastructure project of major regional importance.

Contribution to the Energy Transition

The gas transmission pipeline has been designed to be hydrogen ready, creating conditions for a gradual transition towards more climate friendly energy systems.

Project Necessity

The project is based on the identified need for additional gas transmission capacity, which the AUGUSTA project addresses, as confirmed in Germany’s Gas Network Development Plan.

Commissioning

The AUGUSTA gas transmission pipeline has been in operation since mid-December 2025.

Our Services

On behalf of bayernets GmbH, CDM Smith supported the project by providing construction supervision for the civil engineering works. Our scope of services focused on comprehensive documentation of construction progress, geotechnical consulting services during execution, continuous monitoring of schedules and costs, and ensuring full compliance with all technical and quality requirements. In doing so, we created transparency, reduced project risks and made a decisive contribution to the high quality implementation of the pipeline.

Challenging ground conditions, high groundwater levels and peaty soils within the pipeline trench, along with a wide range of demanding construction methods for trenchless crossings, made this project a real highlight.
