Strengthening Berlin's Metro Infrastructure

The modernisation of Berlin's U3 underground line is an important step towards a reliable and future-ready public transport system for Germany’s capital city. A key element of the project involves demolishing and reconstructing the existing reversing facility at Krumme Lanke station. Once completed, the new facility will enable more efficient operations while also laying the groundwork for the planned extension of the U3 line to Mexikoplatz.
CDM Smith supports the project through geotechnical investigations and environmental analytical construction supervision during both the demolition and reconstruction phases.

Recycling Construction Materials

The project follows a recycling strategy that maximises material reuse and helps conserve valuable resources.

Efficient Material Flow and Waste Management

We coordinate the assessment and management of construction materials, creating transparent and efficient pathways for recycling, recovery and disposal.

Digital Planning

Using Building Information Modelling (BIM), the project benefits from a modern digital planning approach that supports efficient project delivery and improved decision-making.

Urban Environment

Located in the heart of Berlin, the project requires careful planning and coordination to minimise impacts on ongoing metro operations and the surrounding area.

“What makes this project special is its strong commitment to material reuse. Through selective demolition, we can recover and recycle a significant share of the materials, supporting a more sustainable use of resources.”
