Delivering emissions compliance while maintaining operations

Faced with U.S. EPA decrees, a confidential coal-fired power provider needed to reduce emissions without halting operations. CDM Smith designed and built two selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems under an EPC contract, allowing for continuous operations, streamlined delivery and federal compliance.

Meeting federal decrees with SCR systems

Two new SCR units and balance-of-plant equipment helped to reduce emissions to meet strict EPA requirements.

Maintaining continuous operations

An EPC project approach enabled ongoing operations during construction, streamlining delivery and holding to schedule.

Applying advanced engineering

A full range of engineering services—laser scans, site surveys, geotechnical investigations, and more—helped meet project goals.

Prioritizing procurement and construction

CDM Smith’s procurement and construction experts delivered a resilient and right-sized approach to support the project.

Now compliant with federal mandates, the facility demonstrates the client’s commitment to environmental stewardship while sustaining its energy portfolio and local employment. “This facility is a significant part of the community,” said project manager Joe Gidcumb. “It was important to us and the client to keep the facility operating so everyone could continue working.”
