LAWA advances carbon accountability

Aviation accounts for 8% of U.S. transportation emissions, and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is committed to reducing its share through the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program. By participating in ACA, LAWA ensures that its climate action commitments are backed by rigorous data, robust management plans and transparent reporting that can lay the foundation for future policies.

A robust emissions reporting framework

The team developed processes to collect, organize and review emissions data, ensuring reliable reporting of all aviation activities.

Strengthening stakeholder engagement efforts

CDM Smith helped LAWA develop outreach strategies to streamline data requests and improve collaboration.

Capturing comprehensive emissions sources

Reporting included direct and indirect emissions, providing a complete view to guide future carbon reduction initiatives.

Ensuring transparency and accountability

Data are shared in LAWA’s annual sustainability reports, demonstrating climate progress to regulators and stakeholders.

“Airport carbon accreditation is about establishing strong climate action commitments and backing them with internationally recognized methods and real airport data,” says project manager Jeremy Gilbride. CDM Smith continues to support LAWA in advancing the ACA program, refining data processes and strengthening sustainability initiatives that reduce emissions and improve quality of life for airport-adjacent communities.
