Alkhatib has led complex, roadway, highway, bridge rehabilitation, inspection and construction projects for major Illinois transportation agencies. Previously, he managed the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) Rehabilitation in Chicago, leading the structural design efforts involving the rehabilitation of approximately 38 bridges as part of one of IDOT District 1’s major expressway improvement programs. Additionally, Alkhatib supported the Illinois Tollway’s capital program through engineering, program management and delivery of major transportation infrastructure improvements. He also supported the Circle Interchange Reconstruction, contributing to the delivery of one of the Chicago region’s largest and most complex transportation improvement projects.
Hussam’s extensive experience leading major transportation programs will further strengthen and grow CDM Smith’s transportation project portfolio.

Alkhatib has a bachelor's degree and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is a member of the ACEC Illinois – IDOT D1 Committee & Bridge Committee, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and president of the National Arab American Association of Engineers & Architects. He also is a past president and previous chairman of the board for the National Arab American Association of Engineers & Architects (AAAEA-IL).
