Opened in 2015, the new Suez Canal marked the first phase of a broader plan to develop 76,000 km² along the canal into an industrial and technology hub, supported by underground crossings that help create a world-class economic zone.

Constructed deep below ground, the tunnels pass through complex subsurface conditions beneath one of the world’s busiest waterways.
Soil samples from the 5-meter-diameter cross passages were tested at temperatures ranging from +20 to -20 °C in our frost laboratory to determine design parameters for temporary ground freezing through salt-rich clay and sand layers.
Our team provided design review, planning and construction supervision for the Ismailia tunnels, including two twin-lane road tunnels built 60 meters below ground connecting Ismailia and Sinai. Together with our local partner, ACE, we helped achieve a safe, high-quality and fast connection from North Africa to Asia via the Sinai Peninsula to last a century.
