CDM Smith Joins Schneider Electric and Energy Solution Providers to Accelerate Resilient Infrastructure
BOSTON—On September 18, Schnieder Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, announced the Accelerating Resilient Infrastructure Initiative. The initiative is a nationwide effort of over 20 energy leaders to rapidly deploy resilient, community-based energy systems across the U.S. CDM Smith joins the cohort to address aging infrastructure, rising energy costs, growing energy demand, and more extreme weather events with innovative solutions and financing options.
"With power outages costing the U.S. economy an estimated $150 billion each year, the need for resilient energy infrastructure has never been more urgent. This initiative brings together industry leaders to accelerate the deployment of local, future-ready energy solutions, helping communities reduce risk, control costs and ensure continuity of critical services," said Jana Gerber, North American President of Microgrids for Schneider Electric.
This effort aims to scale distributed energy resources (DERs) including solar panels, microgrids, and geothermal heat pumps to address the strain on the U.S. power grid. These DER technologies help communities strengthen energy resilience, address rising utility rates, and decrease reliance on a centralized grid.
Project developers from this initiative have identified $7.5 billion in capital to support energy resilience projects for sites such as municipal facilities, airports, hospitals, schools, and water treatment plants. These projects can be delivered through Energy as a Service (EaaS) models and also leveraged with Energy Savings Performance Contracts.
This initiative will help provide our clients with additional solutions and opportunities to implement their most critical and important energy projects.
