Rich Giani

“I’m inspired by the art of water chemistry and treatment, providing solutions for clients, protecting public health and the hands-on work that takes place at water treatment plants and distri­b­u­tion systems,” says Rich Giani, corrosion control expert and water quality discipline leader at CDM Smith.

He has over three decades of experience in assisting clients to optimize water treatment, achieving regulatory compliance and planning water quality and corrosion control treatment. His work has allowed him to make a positive impact on utilities and communities across North America.

Rich has been recognized with the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Golden Spigot Award, has served as chair of the AWWA’s Distri­b­u­tion Water Quality Committee and was lead author of the AWWA’s manual on internal corrosion control in water distri­b­u­tion systems.

Before joining the firm, Rich served as the water quality manager for DC Water. During his tenure, he led a research team that worked to determine the cause of the 2004 water crisis and solutions to improve the state of water supply in DC.
