Lisa Sherman, PE, PTOE, PMP
Lisa Sherman has over 25 years of experience in traffic and civil engineering. She is skilled in a wide range of transportation services including intersection improvements, traffic signal design, roadway design, traffic calming, transportation planning, municipal project funding and public facilitation. She’s helped countless New England communities manage their projects from initial design to final delivery, utilizing her extensive experience with intersection improvements to prioritize safety for all modes of transportation.
Lisa says her favorite part of her job is getting things accomplished. “I love when projects that we’ve designed are built and operating well.” And while a dedication to executing successful projects for clients is always top of mind for Lisa, she also believes that you must leave room for fun. “I think it is also very important to enjoy what you do and make sure there are a lot of laughs along the way. We spend so much time working; it has to be something we enjoy."
Why CDM Smith? I joined CDM Smith because I loved the idea of working on transportation projects within a larger firm that practiced in a number of communities and disciplines. It has always been nice to learn from and be surrounded by experts in other disciplines like the water services division. It adds variety and exposure that I wouldn’t necessary get working for a traditional transportation firm.
How might clients describe you? Passionate and responsive.
What’s something you enjoy doing on your day off? During bad weather, it’s definitely puzzling. I enjoy 1,000-piece puzzles. When the weather is nice, I absolutely love the beach – it is my sanctuary. I can’t get enough salt water and ocean air. My husband and I also really enjoy kayaking and fresh water fishing, and I have gone duck hunting with him occasionally.
What’s something people might be surprised to know about you? I used to race in women’s sprint triathlons. I never was competitive enough to actually place but I loved the three-sport aspect! I also learned to play an electric organ, taking lessons from the time I was in kindergarten through high school. I have two tattoos and will get one more. I was certified in scuba diving and dove in Puerto Rico and Hawaii but sadly, let the certification lapse once we had kids. It would be great to get back into it again!
I’m inspired by our staff, especially when they challenge me. I love seeing them develop new ideas and solutions.
When she’s not working on transportation projects, Lisa’s probably scrapbooking. “I enjoy the creative outlet that gets me off the computer. I have made a scrapbook for each year of my sons’ lives, plus special books for certain vacations.”
