Wolfgang Kissel
Civil engineer Wolfgang Kissel is a senior project manager in the infrastructure and geotechnical engineering business area for CDM Smith. As an expert in soil studies and foundation consulting, Wolfgang Kissel has been involved in many major projects, such as the construction of Terminal 3 at Frankfurt am Main Airport and the U5 metro and tramline extension in Frankfurt’s Europaviertel or European Quarter. He is currently planning and supervising the construction pit for the FAIR particle accelerator in Darmstadt. The underground accelerator ring which has a circumference of 1.1 km will support particle beams with unprecedented intensity and quality, allowing physically unique experiments. Wolfgang Kissel's responsibilities as a geotechnical consultant include designing the foundation, calculating the planned decoupled pile-raft foundation, and making sure that existing research facilities are not jeopardised.
What does “listen. think. deliver.” mean to you? Start by taking each customer’s situation and requirements on board, then think about and develop a concept, and then, and only then, embark on the planning and calculations. Finally, communicate the results in a concise and structured way.
What is the best part of your work day? There is always something new.
What are your non-work passions? I like going out into the great outdoors, whether on foot or on my mountain bike. Apart from that, I keep bees as a hobby.
