AUGUSTA Gas Transmission Pipeline Successfully Commissioned

Apr 16, 2026
Kötz, Germany -

With the official commissioning ceremony held on 12 March 2026 in Kötz, southern Germany the AUGUSTA gas transmission pipeline marked another important milestone. Since mid‑December 2025, the pipeline project developed by bayernets GmbH has been completed on schedule and is fully operational. The new underground pipeline strengthens the gas transmission network between Wertingen and Kötz and makes a significant contribution to security of supply in southern Germany.

With a total length of 40.5 kilometres, the pipeline runs through the districts of Dillingen an der Donau and Günzburg. By running parallel to the existing Senden–Vohburg (SV50) gas transmission pipeline, AUGUSTA enhances network stability and creates additional capacity to reliably meet both current and future energy demand.
As a transmission system operator, bayernets meets the requirements of the current gas network development plans and sends a clear signal for a demand-driven, future-oriented network expansion.

Challenging ground conditions, high groundwater levels, peat soils in the pipeline trench, and a wide range of complex construction methods for the trenchless crossings made the project a true highlight.

Tobias Willmer, Senior Project Engineer

On behalf of bayernets GmbH, CDM Smith was responsible for supervising the civil engineering works. Our services included comprehensive documentation of construction progress as well as quality assurance throughout all project phases - from the start of construction through to successful commissioning and land restoration.

With its hydrogen-ready design, the pipeline already lays the foundation today for secure supply and the long-term transformation of Germany’s energy infrastructure.
