What makes the grid booster so remarkable?
The system combines state-of-the-art grid control technology with a powerful battery storage system that is connected directly to the Audorf substation. As a result, the electricity grid is utilised more efficiently, fluctuating wind and solar power can be better integrated and fewer grid bottlenecks occur. Consequently, the grid can accommodate more renewable energy, reduce costs for grid interventions, and increase the transmission capacity of existing power lines.
Our role at CDM Smith: Civil EPC for a future-proof infrastructure
We supported the project from the very beginning. As a Civil EPC partner (Engineering, Procurement & Construction), we are responsible for the entire structural realisation of the engineering structures of the grid booster. This includes:
Building construction: planning and construction of the buildings for the technical infrastructure
Civil engineering & earthworks: foundations, cable routes and necessary development measures
Concrete construction: supporting structures for a safe and durable system
Philip Pens (Project Manager), Lukas Wallrabe (Customer Manager at Fluence) and Andreas Roth (Environment/Energy Division Manager) were there live at the start of construction and are supporting the project with their expertise.
