Earlier in his career, he worked as a chemical engineer supporting multimillion-dollar gasification and waste-to-energy pilot programs under U.S. Army Small Business Innovation Research contracts and helped develop waste pre-treatment and dewatering technologies.

Salter has proudly served for 17 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, where he currently holds the rank of Major in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Over the course of his career, he has held a variety of leadership and legal assignments. He previously commanded a company of 120 soldiers and deployed to the Middle East, leading a regional Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear response force. He also served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney at Fort Hood, TX, where he prosecuted federal cases, including matters before the Veterans Treatment Court, supporting reintegration opportunities for veterans.
