Josh Bomar
Josh Bomar is a geotechnical engineer with two decades of experience leading multidisciplinary teams on complex dam safety projects.
As a dams and levees discipline leader, Josh serves as a trusted technical lead on high-profile dam safety modification projects, where he is known for building high-performing teams and fostering innovation in geotechnical engineering and dam safety.
Josh brings extensive expertise in dam and levee inspections, instrumentation evaluation, risk assessment, and construction oversight. “I’m inspired by the opportunity to help communities reduce flood risk through the design of technically sound solutions for complex projects,” he says.
At CDM Smith, Josh is especially proud of his work on the Robinson Lake Dam, where he provided critical construction oversight. “The original dam was found to be structurally deficient after a sinkhole collapsed along the embankment,” he explains. “We carried out a controlled breach using a series of check dams to effectively limit sediment deposition and turbidity in the Harpeth River downstream. Ultimately, the contractor will build a new dam that will restore recreational benefits to my community.”
