Adam Simonsen
Adam Simonsen is the utility management and finance discipline leader at CDM Smith. He specializes in solving utility financial and technical challenges, managing complex projects, and building high-performing teams.
Adam has 25 years of experience in the water industry and has led over $200 million in water utility acquisitions, including the largest full privatization of a wastewater system in New England (City of Ansonia, CT). Adam was also responsible for recruiting entirely new wastewater operations staff, creating wastewater operations and maintenance key performance indicators to improve operational efficiency, and leading communications for public outreach and legislative approvals.
In addition, Adam was responsible restarting the Innovation Council at Aquarion Water Company, a program designed to tackle key challenges within each department of the utility. He facilitated the process, guiding teams as they identified issues, developed solutions, and created implementation plans. The initiative bypassed traditional planning methods and empowered emerging professionals to lead innovation efforts.
“Water and wastewater are more capital intensive than any other utility and the affordability challenges for utility customers have never been greater. I'm most excited to take my own experience, blend it with the immensely talented team at CDM Smith, and deliver industry leading financial and management solutions that make a lasting and beneficial impact on every client and their customers,” he says.
