Biosolids management continues to pose challenges to the water industry across the country. As more stringent wastewater treatment requirements are imposed, they are accompanied by the changes in the solids production and characteristics. Recent events such as extremely wet winter months in 2019 preventing the land application of biosolids and highlighting the risks of landfill dependency; spotlight of emerging contaminants such as PFAS and PFOR compounds driving new regulatory requirements in various parts of the country; and the lack of regulatory focus and commitment by the USEPA as reflected in an internal Office of Inspector General report; all reminded the industry the importance of a sound and flexible plan in managing their biosolids.

This session will focus on:

  • Discussing updates and trends in biosolids management
  • Recent developments in regulations, management, and technologies
  • Presenting lessons learned from recent projects
