Geothermal Expert Mark Metzner Joins CDM Smith

VANCOUVER—Mark Metzner, a senior client service leader, has joined CDM Smith's Industrial Unit. He will play a key role in advancing CDM Smith's energy solutions for industrial clients. With his expertise and experience in geothermal energy networks, Metzner will drive decar­boniza­tion strategies that promote the use of clean, renewable tech­nolo­gies and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Throughout his career, Metzner has worked on major geothermal utility programs across the United States and Canada, focusing on successful commercial project delivery, including district energy systems. He is highly skilled in all ground instal­la­tion elements for major commercial geothermal systems and has extensive experience in structuring geo exchange utility rates.

In 2016, he served as chairman of the ANSI/CSA/IGSHPA C448 Bi-National Standard for ground source heat pump design and instal­la­tion, harmonizing standards for the United States and Canada. He currently serves as the vice-chair of the Standard for the 2023 New Edition. 

At CDM Smith, Metzner will assist clients in framing thermal energy projects from conception to construc­tion and commis­sion­ing. With his experience in managing fleets of drill rigs and major drilling programs, he will be part of CDM Smith's growing footprint in geothermal services for western North America.
