CDM Smith Welcomes 100 Interns to Summer Program
BOSTON—CDM Smith is pleased to welcome 100 college students into its summer Internship Program. Interns from 70 different schools will begin their internship over the next weeks across 43 of CDM Smith’s office locations. The interns will fill roles in several of CDM Smith’s departments and disciplines, including technical services for the firm’s core markets of water, transportation, environment, industrial, and energy and facilities; construction (CDM Constructors, Inc.); services for the federal government; and corporate departments like marketing, business technology, compliance, human resources and more. Most interns are starting the program remotely, equipped with laptops and all the resources they will need to work safely from their home space during the continuation of social distancing. Around one dozen interns are reporting to construction sites where detailed health and safety plans are being followed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
CDM Smith seeks to add the best professionals in the industry and the Internship Program is a great way to establish relationships with bright talent. We partner with educational institutions to enhance the student experience and provide opportunities that will grow their skillsets. Interns and co-ops join us at various stages of their education, including students working toward their bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. They are not only exposed to a variety of projects, but are also introduced to the exciting field of consulting and professional services. Designed to allow students to apply their textbook knowledge to real, practical situations, interns work alongside top industry professionals on ground-breaking projects, all while building a strong network of peers and colleagues.
This summer’s interns will learn about CDM Smith’s multidisciplinary work, with guidance from peers, mentors and managers, as well as access to learning development tools and trainings offered to all employees through CDM Smith University. Additionally, a tailored intern development pathway is offered through ContinUum, CDM Smith’s online learning platform, which consists of courses on a variety of soft and technical skills. Business presentations from CDM Smith leaders will introduce interns to firmwide programs and initiatives, including a virtual tour of one of the firm’s largest projects currently underway—the Houston Northeast Water Purification Plant Expansion project—with Technical Services Unit President Randy Rogers, Emerging Technologies presented by Chief Information Officer David Neitz, as well as presentations about the CDM Smith Cares program, the InfoCenter, Development Assistance Services, FEMA support, Marketing & Communications and more. They will also enjoy fun activities like the annual T-shirt design contest, a group networking competition and events hosted by the firm’s young professionals network. During resume review sessions, interns will receive insider advice working directly with CDM Smith recruiters to update and improve their resumes.
The internship experience at CDM Smith is not just a job. It is a paid working experience where interns learn valuable skills, become important members of our diverse culture and make real contributions that help drive the firm’s mission to be the best, brightest and boldest in the industry. An internship at CDM Smith is the first step toward building an amazing career. In fact, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tim Wall began his career at CDM Smith as a co-op student.
