Barbara Wells Named Women’s Transportation Seminar Greater Kansas City Chapter President

KANSAS CITY, Missouri—CDM Smith is pleased to announce that Barbara Wells, PE, CDM Smith associate and technical strategy leader for trans­porta­tion planning and design, was elected president of the Women’s Trans­porta­tion Seminar (WTS) Greater Kansas City (WTS-KC) chapter. Assuming the position on January 1, 2018, Wells will serve for 2 years.

She expressed her enthusiasm about WTS and its role in her profes­sional growth, as well as her plans as president: “WTS provides me with great oppor­tu­ni­ties to build my career, helping me to grow in this industry, meet new people across the country and understand the different challenges we face as women and as engineers. As president of WTS-KC, I’m excited to take our chapter to the next level, start new endeavors and welcome new faces.”

Wells has kicked off her term with a new initiative called “Mind, Body & Soul,” which focuses on the holistic connection between personal and profes­sional lives. “I want our chapter members to grow together,” said Wells. “Industry and profes­sional growth is important, but we can learn from each other by connecting as people and creating bonds through other activities outside our regular programs and meetings, such as a book club, community outreach activities or a 5k run.”

A 20-year veteran of the industry, Wells boasts a wealth of experience in trans­porta­tion planning, highway design and toll facility design for state departments of trans­porta­tion, such as the Kansas Department of Trans­porta­tion and the Missouri Department of Trans­porta­tion, as well as local authorities. In addition to her work with WTS-KC, Wells is an active member of the Inter­na­tional Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association and previously served as state director of the Missouri Society of Profes­sional Engineers.
