At CDM Smith Australia, sustainability is part of how we work, operate and contribute to the communities and environments around us. As an employee-owned environmental, water and digital consultancy, our work is connected to some of Australia’s most important environmental challenges, and we aim to make practical, responsible decisions that support environmental protection, community resilience and long-term value.

Sustainability in Our Business

Our business is built around solving complex environmental and water challenges through services including environmental approvals and planning, hydrogeology and hydrology, contaminated land, remediation, digital solutions, and asset and mine closure planning. 
Guided by our Sustainability Policy, we embed economic, environmental and social considerations into the way we deliver projects, applying evidence-based thinking, practical experience and digital capability to help clients understand environmental risks, meet regulatory requirements, reduce impacts, and plan for resilient, long-term outcomes. 
Sustainability is reflected in how we work every day through careful planning, technical excellence, collaboration and responsible decision-making, ensuring our projects contribute positively to communities, the environment and future generations.

Sustainability in Our Operations

We recognise that sustainability starts with how we operate as a business, which is why CDM Smith Australia is committed to reducing the environmental impact of our day-to-day activities through responsible resource use, waste reduction, sustainable procurement and measurable operational improvements. 

Guided by our Environment Policy and Environmental Management System, we aim to reduce energy and water usage annually, lower carbon emissions through waste reduction, operational efficiencies and potential offsets, implement regional office-based waste reduction programs, track office printer use to support a declining trend in printed materials, continually improve IT hardware management to support more sustainable consumption, and source goods and services from suppliers aligned with our sustainability goals.

Respect for Country

Respect for Country is an important part of sustainability. It reminds us that the land and waters we work on hold deep cultural, environmental and community significance. 


Through our reconciliation journey, CDM Smith Australia is working to build stronger relationships, deepen cultural understanding and embed respect into the way we work. Our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan provides a structured foundation for this commitment, focused on relationships, respect and opportunities.
