Enhancing mobility and traffic operations along a major east-west corridor

CDM Smith is providing comprehensive consultancy services for the improvement of Umm Suqeim Road, a key east-west corridor connecting Al Khail Road and Mohammed Bin Zayed Road in Dubai. The project includes traffic studies, future-year modelling, detailed design and construction supervision for roadway and intersection improvements. The team developed integrated transportation solutions that enhance traffic operations, accessibility, pedestrian safety, and multimodal connectivity while supporting Dubai’s long-term urban growth objectives.

Comprehensive Traffic Assessments

CDM Smith conducted extensive traffic studies, signal assessment study, and travel demand analysis to evaluate existing conditions and identify operational improvements across the corridor.

Future-Ready Mobility Planning

Future-year traffic modelling for 2025, 2030, and ultimate-year scenarios supported the development of scalable transportation solutions aligned with projected urban growth and development.

Integrated Multimodal Design

The project incorporates pedestrian bridges, cycle tracks, footpaths, and public transport considerations to improve accessibility, safety, and multimodal connectivity throughout the main corridor.

Enhanced Corridor Infrastructure

Road widening, upgraded intersections, drainage improvements, and optimized traffic management schemes were designed to improve traffic flow and support safer roadway operations.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) appointed CDM Smith to provide consultancy services for the improvement of Umm Suqeim Road between Al Khail Road and Mohammed Bin Zayed Road in Dubai. As one of the city’s important east-west transportation corridors, Umm Suqeim Road supports regional connectivity and serves surrounding residential, commercial and mixed-use developments. The project is designed to improve traffic circulation, enhance roadway safety, and support future transportation demands across the corridor.

CDM Smith’s scope includes preliminary studies, traffic analysis, detailed design, tender documentation and construction supervision services for roadway and intersection improvements. The team carried out extensive data collection activities, including traffic volume surveys, signal timing assessments, travel demand evaluations, and future-year modelling for different year scenarios. Based on the study findings, CDM Smith developed optimum engineering solutions that include roadway widening, 800m long underpass, upgraded intersections, optimized traffic signals, and multimodal infrastructure enhancements. The project also incorporates cycle tracks, footpaths, drainage systems, street lighting, and traffic management measures designed to improve accessibility, operational performance, and safety for all road users. Together, these improvements support a more efficient and connected transportation network aligned with Dubai’s continued urban growth and mobility objectives.
