Supervision of seven new link roads enhancing mobility, access and future development around the Al Khor Expressway in northern Doha.

CDM Smith provided comprehensive post-contract supervision for seven link roads totaling 25 km along Al Khor Expressway. Our team managed design review, contractor oversight, coordination with Ashghal and end users, HSE compliance, QA/QC, progress monitoring and testing and commissioning, ensuring safe, efficient delivery and smooth handover of all roads, utilities and landscape assets.
The new link roads expand corridors to two and three lanes per direction, boosting total capacity to nearly 8,000 vehicles per hour. This enhanced connectivity reduces travel times, supports commuter flow between Doha and Al Khor, and creates direct access to key community and development areas.
The project includes pedestrian paths, cycle tracks, jogging routes, landscape zones, wayfinding, ITS and parking and support facilities along the Fast Cycle Track. These amenities improve safety, user comfort and multimodal mobility across one of Qatar’s most active corridors.
The team applied Ashghal’s PDLM online system to streamline asset handover to Roads and Drainage O&M Departments. This digital process improved collaboration, accelerated approvals and ensured that all documentation and requirements were met in a transparent, consistent and traceable manner.
Key lessons included managing deep-excavation risks and improving bracket resilience for traffic signals during severe weather. These insights strengthened safety procedures, emergency preparedness and design considerations for future infrastructure projects.
This major infrastructure initiative delivered seven new link roads, totaling roughly 25 km, to improve accessibility on both sides of the Al Khor Expressway and support the growing communities of northern Doha. The works included multi-lane corridors, service roads, pedestrian and cycle infrastructure, extensive landscaping, micro-tunnelling, utilities, substations, traffic systems and public amenities connected to the Fast Cycle Track and Lusail Stadium precinct. We provided end-to-end construction supervision, coordinating closely with Ashghal, design consultants, contractors and end users. The upgraded corridors significantly increase capacity, reduce travel times, improve network efficiency and provide a safe, integrated mobility system for future development in the region.
