CDM Smith is providing comprehensive consultancy services for the redevelopment of the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) interchange, one of Dubai’s key transportation nodes. The project includes traffic studies, future-year modelling, detailed design and construction supervision for a multi-level interchange and associated roadway improvements. The team developed integrated mobility solutions including flyovers, upgraded intersections, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, drainage systems and utility coordination to improve safety, accessibility and traffic operations across the interchange.
The project replaces the existing five-leg roundabout with a multi-level interchange and a modern signalized-intersection designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and enhance traffic operational efficiency.
CDM Smith conducted future-year traffic modelling and land use assessments to develop scalable transportation solutions that support Dubai’s long-term urban and economic growth.
Dedicated pedestrian crossings, cycle tracks, footpaths and public realm enhancements were integrated into the design to improve accessibility and create safer multimodal connections.
The project includes six new flyovers, underground utility diversions, SW drainage improvements and roadway upgrades coordinated within a complex urban environment and strategic road network.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) appointed CDM Smith to deliver consultancy services for the development of the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) interchange, a major transportation infrastructure project in the heart of Dubai. The project is designed to improve traffic circulation, enhance safety, and provide future-ready infrastructure that supports the continued growth of one of Dubai’s most important commercial and economic districts. Strategically located within Dubai’s road network, the interchange connects several major corridors, including Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, Zaabeel Palace Street, and 2nd December Street.
CDM Smith’s scope includes preliminary studies, traffic study, detailed design, tendering, and construction supervision services. The team conducted comprehensive traffic assessments, travel time surveys, signal optimization study, and future-year modelling for 2025, 2030 and ultimate-year scenarios to evaluate operational performance and identify required mitigation measures. Based on the study findings, CDM Smith developed a multi-level interchange solution featuring six new bridges and flyovers with a total length of 3.5 kilometers, redesigned signalized intersections, and upgraded roadway connections. The project also incorporates pedestrian bridges, cycling facilities, public realm improvements, drainage systems, street lighting and underground utility coordination to deliver an integrated and multimodal urban mobility solution. Once complete, the new interchange is expected to significantly reduce traffic delays while improving accessibility, safety, and connectivity across the surrounding urban areas.
