CDM Smith is conducting a full network-wide assessment of Dubai’s 610 signalized intersections, analyzing traffic volumes, movements and signal timings. We are evaluating intelligent signal equipment, best-practice standards and alternative control modes to improve efficiency and safety. The scope includes field surveys, modelling, validation and development of optimized operational strategies.
The project includes detailed analysis of traffic conditions at every signalized intersection in Dubai. By reviewing volumes, movements and timing plans, the study identifies operational gaps and opportunities for enhanced coordination, reduced delays and improved reliability for all road users.
We are evaluating intelligent traffic signal equipment and international design standards to ensure optimal operation. The work supports Dubai’s commitment to smart mobility by aligning signal infrastructure with the latest global ITS practices.
We are assessing multiple operational modes to determine the most efficient approach for each junction. These improvements aim to reduce congestion, enhance safety and contribute to a smoother and more sustainable urban traffic network.
The project is delivered in two major phases. Survey work, subconsultant assignments and foundation evaluations were completed on schedule. Initial findings identified 210 intersections for focused assessment, forming the basis for future optimization measures.
The Roads & Transport Authority appointed CDM Smith to carry out the this project, a major initiative aimed at enhancing traffic operations across the city’s 610 signalized intersections. These intersections play a vital role in managing Dubai’s complex and rapidly growing traffic demand. We are conducting extensive traffic counts, analyzing vehicle movements and reviewing existing timing plans, alongside evaluating intelligent traffic signal equipment and international best-practice standards. The assessment covers both crossroad junctions and mid-block pedestrian signals. The project aims to identify the most effective operational modes to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and enhance safety. Progress stands at approximately 25%, with survey activities completed and an interim Traffic Report delivered, identifying 210 intersections for detailed review. As the project advances through predefined stages, additional outcomes will further support Dubai’s smart mobility vision.
