Modernizing Doha's Sewer Infrastructure
The project upgraded more than 10 kilometers of foul sewer networks, improving wastewater collection capacity, and supporting long-term urban development across Inner Doha.
CDM Smith delivered post-contract professional consultancy services for the Construction of Foul Sewer Network for Inner Doha – Package 3B (C816/3B). Acting as the main supervision consultant for Ashghal, the team provided project management, construction supervision, contract administration, quantity surveying and stakeholder coordination for a complex utility project within a dense urban environment. By integrating sewer infrastructure upgrades with FIFA readiness works, utility enhancements and public realm improvements, CDM Smith helped deliver resilient infrastructure while minimizing disruption to surrounding communities.
The project upgraded more than 10 kilometers of foul sewer networks, improving wastewater collection capacity, and supporting long-term urban development across Inner Doha.
CDM Smith coordinated multiple utility upgrades, roadway improvements, pedestrian infrastructure and authority interfaces while maintaining construction progress in a congested city environment.
Additional works included pedestrian connectivity, surface water drainage, road improvements, New Roads, street lighting and utility enhancements supporting Qatar's FIFA infrastructure program.
The team introduced Polymer Resin Concrete manholes and Cured-in-Place Pipe rehabilitation to improve constructability, reduce costs and accelerate project delivery.
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) appointed CDM Smith as the main supervision consultant for the Construction of Foul Sewer Network for Inner Doha – Package 3B (C816/3B), a key component of the Construction Package 6 wastewater infrastructure program. The project upgraded the catchment areas of Pumping Stations PS8 and PS16 through the construction of more than 10.5 kilometers of gravity foul sewer pipelines, house connection upgrades, decommissioning of existing sewer infrastructure and extensive road reinstatement works. Additional project scope included surface water drainage, pedestrian connectivity, roadway improvements, new roads, street lighting, treated sewer effluent (TSE) utilities and public realm enhancements delivered as part of Qatar's FIFA readiness program.
CDM Smith provided comprehensive project management, construction supervision, contract administration, quantity surveying, testing and commissioning, stakeholder coordination and project closeout services. Working closely with Ashghal, utility authorities, design consultants and contractors, the team managed multiple site instructions and evolving project requirements while maintaining quality, safety and schedule performance. Innovative engineering solutions, including the adoption of Polymer Resin Concrete (PRC) manholes and Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) rehabilitation technology, improved durability, reduced construction impacts and generated significant cost savings. The successful delivery of this complex urban infrastructure project strengthened wastewater services, enhanced pedestrian connectivity, and supported Doha's continued growth through resilient, future-ready utility infrastructure.
