Hydraulic modelling, drainage and irrigation design for Qatar’s western area infrastructure

CDM Smith delivers hydraulic modelling, drainage and irrigation studies and detailed design through a task-order framework. We apply advanced hydraulic analysis to stormwater, wastewater and TSE/irrigation networks, ensuring system capacity, resilience and regulatory compliance. Designs are developed in line with QSDDM, QHDM, QCS and international best practices to support phased infrastructure delivery.

Comprehensive hydraulic modelling solutions

We perform detailed hydraulic modelling to assess stormwater, wastewater and TSE/irrigation networks across large-scale developments. The analysis supports optimal pipe sizing, flood mitigation and system performance under existing and future demand scenarios.

Integrated drainage design for urban growth

Drainage systems are designed to align with road layouts, utilities and land use plans. We ensure seamless coordination between surface-groundwater drainage management, foul sewer and TSE/irrigation networks, supporting safe, sustainable and resilient infrastructure delivery.

Compliance with Qatar design standards

All hydraulic studies and designs comply with the Qatar Sewerage and Drainage Design Manual, Qatar Highway Design Manual, Qatar Construction Specifications and relevant international standards, ensuring regulatory approval, constructability and long-term operational reliability.

Scalable delivery through task-order model

The task-order approach allows hydraulic modelling and drainage design services to be delivered efficiently across multiple packages. This enables Ashghal to advance priority developments while maintaining consistent technical quality across the western area.

Ashghal appointed CDM Smith as DEC for the western area of Qatar, covering approximately 6,500 hectares and delivered through a multi-year task-order framework. We provide hydraulic modelling and engineering services to support subdivision developments, arterial roads and access corridors. Our scope of work includes stormwater drainage, foul sewer and TSE/irrigation network studies, hydraulic analysis, detailed design and design revalidation. We also support field investigations, environmental assessments, coordination with authorities and preparation of tender documents. Ongoing task orders include drainage and utility design for large residential subdivisions, access roads serving strategic facilities, and TSE/irrigation distribution networks along major corridors such as Salwa Road. Through advanced modelling and standards-driven design, the project supports Qatar’s long-term infrastructure resilience and urban expansion objectives.
