Dubai Municipality appointed CDM Smith to upgrade and rehabilitate the stormwater system serving west Deira, a mixed-use area spanning 1,752 hectares in the heart of Dubai. The project aims to address recurring flooding caused by increased runoff and limited network capacity in critical locations. We are conducting detailed data collection, site surveys, topographic and geotechnical investigations, and comprehensive hydraulic modelling using SewerGEMS and InfoWorks ICM. We are assessing stormwater assets, pump stations, appurtenances, outfalls and pond capacities to determine their current performance. Based on these findings, we are developing a suite of cost-effective solutions including SuDS interventions, overflow routing and pump optimization, with major network upgrades reserved as a last resort. The scope extends through design, tender documentation, evaluation and construction supervision, providing Dubai Municipality with a clear path to deliver long-term resilience for the community.
