Traffic engineering, design and infrastructure development for western Qatar

CDM Smith is providing multi-disciplinary design consultancy services for Ashghal’s western area, focusing on traffic impact assessments, operational analysis and road network design. We are evaluating subdivision layouts, arterial corridors and utility requirements while ensuring compliance with QHDM, QTCM 2021 and QCS standards. Task orders include full studies, detailed design and revalidation to support safe, efficient and future-ready mobility.

Robust traffic assessments and operational analysis

CDM Smith performs detailed traffic impact studies, peak-hour assessments and operational modelling to evaluate junction performance, corridor capacities and future mobility needs. Using SIDRA, SYNCHRO and network-based tools, we identify constraints and recommends improvements that enhance safety, efficiency and long-term network reliability.

Integrated design for roads and major corridors

We deliver design solutions for local roads, subdivision layouts and arterial highways, ensuring seamless multimodal movement. Designs incorporate roadway geometry, intersection control, speed management, access strategies, utilities coordination and highway safety principles to support growing communities in western Qatar.

Future-ready infrastructure and drainage planning

Our scope includes stormwater, foul sewer, TSE and potable water networks designed to support long-term development. Hydraulic modelling, pump station design and resilience considerations ensure infrastructure systems meet both current demands and future growth.

Task-order delivery supporting Ashghal’s program

We are supporting Ashghal with task-specific studies, design revalidations, tender support, permitting and stakeholder coordination. This flexible approach enables effective implementation of Qatar’s nationwide infrastructure program and accelerates delivery across the 6,500 hectares western area.

Ashghal appointed CDM Smith as the design engineering consultant  for the western area under Qatar’s second phase of the Local Roads and Infrastructure Development Program. Covering approximately 6,500 hectares, the assignment spans 6 years with potential extension and includes traffic engineering, roads design, utilities planning and infrastructure studies delivered through multiple task orders. We are conducting traffic impact assessments, operational modelling, geometric design, drainage studies and design revalidation works in full accordance with QHDM, QTCM 2021, QCS and other applicable standards. The scope also includes hydraulic modelling, environmental assessments, site investigations, utilities coordination, NOC acquisition and tender preparation. Current task orders range from subdivision development to arterial road upgrades and access road designs supporting military, industrial and community developments. We ensure each package incorporates safe operations, efficient network performance and resilient long-term infrastructure for the State of Qatar.
