The symbolic ground-breaking ceremony for AUGUSTA gas transmission pipeline took place this week at the Prettelshofen site, located in the town of Wertingen, in the district of Dillingen an der Donau, Germany. Together with Minister of State Dr Fabian Mehring (Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs), @bayernets GmbH marked the official launch of construction on a key infrastructure project for southern Germany.

The 40.5-kilometre pipeline will extend from the compressor station in Wertingen to the grid connection point in Kötz, in the district of Günzburg. With an investment of approximately 180 million euros, AUGUSTA is playing a vital role in reinforcing the region’s gas infrastructure and energy security. Commissioning is scheduled for the 4th quarter of 2025.

CDM Smith has been appointed by bayernets GmbH to oversee the civil engineering works. Our responsibilities include comprehensive documentation of construction progress, as well as ensuring quality assurance throughout the project.

The AUGUSTA gas transmission pipeline not only enhances energy security in southern Germany, but also plays a key role in the country’s energy transition by being designed for hydrogen transport.
Marcel Wiech, Senior Project Manager

AUGUSTA represents a modern, long-distance pipeline that meets today’s needs and is future-ready – capable of transporting hydrogen as energy systems evolve.
