Newark Lead Service Line Replacement Program Awarded CMAA Project Achievement Award

Newark, N.J. —The Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) awarded the Newark Lead Service Line Replacement Program with a 2022 Project Achievement Award in the Water/Wastewater/Utility: Construction value greater than $50 Million category.

Each year CMAA’s Project Achievement Awards program highlights innovative and industry-leading projects. CDM Smith and the Newark Lead Service Line Replacement program were recognized amongst 20 other projects this year.

The Newark Lead Service Line Replacement Program consisted of replacing 23,000+ lead water service lines to homes in the city of Newark and confirming another 4,000+ homes did not require lead service replacements. The projects were done using trenchless technology to minimize the impact to the citizens of Newark and lower project costs. Lead lines were replaced with new copper lines providing safer drinking water to the citizens of Newark. The CDM Smith program/construction management team, working closely with the City of Newark managed this large-scale public works program, completed it under budget and seven years ahead of schedule.

Farrelly and Kareem Adeem from the City of Newark will accept the award with Newark during the CMAA 2022 conference in San Diego, CA, October 9-11.
