U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe Awards CDM Smith $91 Million Design-Bid-Build Contract
ISRAEL—CDM Smith was recently selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Europe District for the new construction of eight hardened aircraft shelters, support facilities and infrastructure in Israel. Valued at $91 million, this design-bid-build project will be delivered over 2 years, and also includes construction of roads, taxiways, shelter buildings, auxiliary facilities, a pumping station and sewage power line, and underground utilities. CDM Smith will complete all construction, commissioning, training, and delivery of as-built drawings, O&M Manuals and a Warranty Plan.
This is CDM Smith’s sixth and largest project with USACE in support of the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program in Israel. As demonstrated through our past work in Israel, the CDM Smith team brings innovative thinking, technical skill, close working relationships and strong communication with subcontractors and suppliers, as well as a proactive approach to safety, and dedication to quality and on-time delivery.
“A project of this magnitude is very complex with so many inter-related sequencing challenges around every piece of the schedule,” said Nick Maxin, CDM Smith vice president and project controls manager. “With input from all partners, we considered everything from workflow, transit time of materials, queuing of truck deliveries, steel installation and reinforcement.” The detailed execution plan will be supported by our CDM Smith’s Tel Aviv office, which was established in 2015 to support this USACE program.
“We are very pleased to continue working with the Army Corps to execute this important program for the United States,” said Jay Manik, PE, CDM Smith vice president and client service leader. “We are prepared with a thorough plan, robust technical experience and subcontractors we’ve had success working with in the past.”
Construction is set to begin this spring.
